1ºESO:AUTUMN POEMS

Read and learn one of these poems. Can you do your own autumn poem? POST IT HERE (don't forget to include colours, food, actions, adjectives... related to the season)

Rain of Leaves

It’s raining big,
It’s raining small,
It’s raining autumn leaves
In fall.

It’s raining gold
And red and brown
As autumn leaves
Come raining down.

It’s raining everywhere
I look.
It’s raining bookmarks
On my book!

Pumpkins

When you see me in the fields,
My orange glowing in the sun,
It's time to say goodbye to summer
and hello to autumn fun!!

Autumn Leaves

The leaves are falling down.
The leaves are falling down.
Red, yellow, green and brown.
The leaves are falling down.

Autumn Fires

by Robert Louis Stevenson
In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!
Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.
Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!

Autumn, Queen of Year

by Winifred Sackville Stoner, Jr.
When the pumpkins are so yellow
And the vines with grapes abound,
When the melons are so mellow
And the nuts fall to the ground;
When persimmons lose their bitters,
And the apples are so red;
When we love to eat corn fritters
Since the roasting ears have fled;
When vacation days are over
And the children go to school,
They no longer play in clover,
But much learn "Arithmos-rule,"
When weird Hallowe'en's most naughty elves
With gnomes and sprites appear,
While fat Thanksgiving fills the shelves -
'Tis AUTUMN, QUEEN OF YEAR.

MARTIN LUTHER KING (15th January 1929- April 1968)

THIS WEEK WE CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, BUT WHO WAS HE? AND WHY WAS HE SO IMPORTANT?

He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. King, both a Baptist minister and civil-rights activist, had a notorious impact on race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s. He played a fundamental role in ending the legal segregation of African-American citizens in the South and other areas of the nation, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, among several other honors. King was assassinated in April 1968, and continues to be remembered as one of the most honoured African-American leaders in history, often referenced by his 1963 speech, "I Have a Dream", to which you can listen by clicking here.

You can also listen to this song by U2 referring to his life and what he did.
